More pictures...

The reason I took this picture is two-fold. One, because out of all of the flowers that Amy and I made for Kayley's headbands, this one is my favorite.. And two, I love how when she falls asleep in her car seat her little chubby cheeks just droop down over her shoulder straps.

Sleeping Beauty

Daddy came home for lunch just as Kayley finished nursing. So he burped her and they took a little nap together. I love how she is holding his thumb in this picture.

Yummy dinner and a cute little visitor

We have had so many sweet family and friends do SOO much for us the past several weeks. Thank you so much all of you! We love you! My sweet cousin Rosie, and Aunt Ruth brought us dinner today. After our long day the day before, it was soo nice to have a yummy meal brought over to us and not to have to worry about making anything. Nate was so excited about the blondies that they made us for dessert. They are one of his favorites! Kristen, my cousin, and Julia, Rosie's cute little girl, came over too and visited with us for a little while. Thanks guys! It was delicious!

Julia was so cute with Kayley! She was so excited to hold her and even when Kayley got a little fussy, the point where most people quickly hand the baby back to you, Julia didn't mind. She just sat there contently holding her. She's such a cutie!

Jaxon's 2nd Birthday Party

Our cute little nephew Jaxon turned 2 today! We had a pretty long day after going to the BYU game but we definitely didn't want to miss this cute little guys birthday party. I didn't get any pictures of him opening presents, but it was so funny because he loves balls, just anything having to do with balls, and so seriously almost every single present was some type of ball. He got so many presents that I think it was a little overwhelming for him. But on the bright side, at least Ashley and Tyler won't have to get him any balls for a really long time! Ashley and Tyler live in Traverse Mountain, just a few minutes away from Lauren and Ian, so they stopped by for just a few minutes and gave us this cute Winnie the Pooh tummy time mat. I had never even seen them at the store before so I was excited to have something fun to use for Kayley during her daily tummy time. Thanks Uncle Ian and Aunt Lauren!!

I'm way behind on blogging and every time I go to start, I just think about how much I need to do to catch up and it makes me not even want to start....so then I just don't do anything. Anyway, I got scolded :) by my sister-in-law yesterday for not posting on her for a while, so I promised her that I would do it today. So now that the end of the day is fast approaching I decided I better keep my promise....

We went to the BYU vs. Wyoming game on Saturday (a week ago) and of course took our sweet little Kayley with us. We want to start brainwashing her while she is still young and figured 2 1/2 weeks old wasn't too early to start. :) Every night before she goes to bed we sing the Cougar fight song as we rock her to sleep. JK! I actually did sing it to her today though as I was trying to wake her up so that she would finish nursing on the other side. I figured it was kind of an upbeat, peppy song and might help. It didn't really seem to faze her in the slightest!

I went the day before and bought her this cute little BYU onesie at the bookstore. Robb told me that I should have gotten the blue one, but I explained to him that we don't want anyone to mistake her for a litttle boy, so that's why I decided on the pink one! It was a little big on her but I figured that was probably a good thing because then she can wear it all season. See Nate, I'm such a good wife, always trying to save money wherever I can! :)

Max is always so sweet with Kayley! I hope that she will be as big of a Cougar fan as he is. He is so cute at the games. He is always so excited to see Cosmo and can always spot him out no matter where he is in the stadium. I thought that this picture was so cute. He had his little chocolate mustache going on from his treats from the chocolate fountain.
Bryce and Kelly were sitting just a few rows in front of us at the game so we got to hang out with them in the tent at half time. They look so cute with a little baby!
Kayley was SOOO good at the game!! I was soo grateful. She was asleep on the way there and while we ate in the tent before the game. So thoughtful of her to let mommy eat first before feeding her! :) Then she woke up just as we finished eating and I went and fed her in the car. Nate was really sweet and missed the first ten minutes of the game to come with me and help me. After she ate, she fell asleep again and we went in and sat in our seats and she slept the entire time until the end of the game! We just took turns holding her on our lap and covering her ears with our hands when the crowd got loud. She did so well and woke up just as the last few seconds ticked on the game clock. Such a perfect child! (If only that could have lasted forever!)

Being out in the sun all afternoon definitely drained our energy. Both Kayley and Daddy were exhausted when we got home. Two cute cougar fans!!

Bed Time Stories

Nate's sister, Kristel, is an elementary school teacher. When she came to the hospital to visit us, she gave us a few really cute children's books and told me that it was great if I read to Kayley but then she really encouraged Nathan to read to her as much as possible. She said that just recently she learned that research shows that when dads get involved and read to their children, their sons' and daughters' achievement is enhanced. Even though Nate is super busy with going to work and school full time, he tries to read to Kayley at least every other night.

I googled "Dads reading to their children" and found this article which I thought was kind of interesting.

"...Dads reading stories to their children is a bonding moment. The physical closeness of story time and the cuddling are going to bring you closer to your kids. You will end up tickling them more often. You will end up hugging them more often. You will stroke their hair more often. That’s called bonding and your kids will love you for it. I read an article a while back about one of the important roles that dads teach their children. Dads are the one who normally wrestle with the kids and tickle them until they beg for mercy and toss them in the air. Dads get kids riled up. When the playtime is over, dads show their kids how to calm back down. Ask any kindergarten teacher how important and how difficult of a lesson this is to teach to a young boy or girl. Reading is a very sedentary, calm event. If the guy that just had them giggling and gasping for breath can now sit still with a book on his lap, your kids are going to learn how to do that, also."

He is reading "I love you stinky face" to her in this picture. I know, I thought the same thing when I first read the title, but it's actually a super cute book with a good message.
I don't look that great in these pictures but I'm always the one pulling out the camera taking pictures and so I'm never in any of them. My dad is in hardly any of the pictures from when we were growing up and so I'm trying to be better about having Nate, or other people, take pictures with me in them.

Two Week Appointment

I can't believe she's already 2 weeks old! I know all you moms out there are thinking, "She can't believe her baby is already 2 weeks old?! She has no idea how quickly time goes by and before you know it they are turning 2 years old!" It just seems like the past 2 weeks have flown by so quickly. Part of me is so excited for Kayley to get older and start to interact a little more and learn to crawl, walk, etc.; and then the other part of me wants her to stay little forever. I just love little newborns! They are so sweet and precious.

This is Kayley and me outside Dr. Savage's office. Despite waiting to see the doctor for over an hour and the fact that I'm retarded and forgot her PKU envelope, her appointment went really well. (I had to take her back again the next day for them to draw her blood for the PKU. I'm so glad that she is a good bleeder because I hate watching them prick her heel. They had to do it like 5 times because of her jaundice, so I guess it's not that big of a deal to her because she didn't really cry much this last time. It was more of a whimper.) She was sleeping when we first got there but decided to wake up as I was stripping her down to her diaper and let the nurse know that her bodily functions were working quite well. As I was changing her poopy diaper, the nurse measured her length and head circumference and then when she was all clean, we took her to be weighed. Here are the results:

Weight: 6 lbs. 14 oz. 10%
Length: 20 1/2 in. 50%
Head: 35 cm 25%

When she was born, she weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. and was 19 in. long. I was never really concerned, but it was definitely comforting to know that she must be getting enough to eat because she is growing well and gaining weight. Before we know it we will be going back for my 6 week and then Kayley's 2 months appointment!

Full Moon Ride at Sundance

We had a really good time last night up in Sundance on the full moon ride. We have been looking forward to going for about a month now since my brother Trevor told us about it. He had taken a date up there and had a really good time. It sounded like a fun outdoorsy thing to do so we planned on going with our friends, Bryce and Kelly, that weekend and then found out that day that they only had it on certain dates throughout the year. So I put it on the calendar thinking that it would be a fun date for Nate and me before we had the baby. Obviously Kayley wanted to be part of the date so she decided to come a little early so that she could join us! :) We heard that it gets pretty cold up there so we made sure to bundle her up to keep her nice and warm.

This was in the process of getting her ready. She was fast asleep. She loves to sleep with her arms above her head like that. It's so funny!

Nate got her ready while I put on some warm clothes. She had on a onesie, a long sleeve shirt, a jacket, a hat and a hood on her head and then warm, fuzzy socks on her hands and feet. On top of that, when we got there, we swaddled her in a thinner blanket and then covered her with a big, warm blanket.
She looked so cute! I love holding her and just cuddling with her.

I tried to take like 50 pictures of the moon but none of them turned out well. For the most part, they were all dark, black pictures with a little round dot somewhere in the middle of them. I wish that they would have worked though because it was so beautiful! I was really worried that Kayley was going to wake up in the middle of the ride and want to eat and I wasn't sure what I would do if that happened because I wasn't super excited about having to nurse her on a ski lift in the middle of the mountains. She is such a good baby though and slept the entire time! It was so fun and I'm so glad that we went.
